political education for the people
a/bout me
Fernando Deveras is a Mexican-American son of immigrants, a father, a community organizer, and certified educator. Fernando’s page on IG @fernando.deveras is dedicated to providing political education in a way that is accessible and action oriented, tackling issues from the local to the international level. His advocacy work has centered around empowering working class families through education, neighborhood organizing, and direct action to enact change in our communities.
Fernando is a dedicated lifelong educator. He began working with students as an after-school instructor with the Boys and Girls Club of Garden Grove, and went on to serve as a student support paraprofessional at Santa Ana Unified School District. After graduating from Cal State Fullerton with a BA in Psychology, he continued his studies and obtained his Multiple-Subject Teaching Credential and immediately stepped into his own classroom as middle school teacher. After teaching for 5 years, he stepped away from the classroom to work at a local non-profit organization, OCCORD, to support their community organizing efforts.
In 2022, Fernando met his partner, Leslie Priscilla, and in 2023 he joined her organization, Latinx Parenting, as a Facilitator and Director of Community Engagement. Latinx Parenting brings trauma-informed healing-centered family education to the Latine community in a way that is culturally relevant, accessible, and compassionate. Through Latinx Parenting, Fernando offers workshops for fathers (Liberating Brown Fatherhood), young men (Liberated Hijos), and educators (Teach Them Young).
In addition to the work he does at Latinx Parenting, Fernando also regularly shares videos to his social media platforms, educating the community on a wide range of topics such as history, politics, psychology, community organizing, and more.
